Nevada Power Company d/b/a NV Energy: generator, battery backup & CPAP rules
Service area: Serves southern Nevada, including Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Laughlin.
Meter collar transfer switches
Accepted
NV Energy calls meter collars "inter-set devices" and allows only devices on its published list: the Tesla Backup Switch (model 1624171-xx-y), ConnectDER (C-B-5-22-XX) and the Enphase IQ Meter Collar (MC-200-011-V01). GenerLink is not on the list. Devices are allowed only on services of 200 amps or less, one per home, must be installed by a qualified person with a local permit, and must be sealed and locked by NV Energy. Contractors must contact NV Energy before installation to have the meter unlocked and removed.
Generator and battery disconnect requirements
A standby generator must connect only through a visibly open double-throw transfer switch that is mechanically interlocked so the generator and the grid can never be connected together. Before using a portable generator, open the main service switch, and disconnect the generator before turning the main switch back on. Anyone with a standby generator must tell NV Energy where it is installed, and plans for the transfer switch are submitted for approval. Batteries paired with solar need a readily accessible, visible-break, lockable disconnect within 10 feet and in line of sight of the service equipment; pull-out disconnects are not accepted.

Medical program for CPAP, BiPAP and oxygen users
- Program
- Green Cross Program
- What it provides
- Advance notice of planned outages. If the account becomes past due, service may be extended, but it can still be disconnected without payment or a payment plan. It does not give priority restoration in unplanned outages and is not a discount. With your permission, NV Energy may share your Green Cross information with first responders during emergencies and planned safety outages.
- CPAP / BiPAP
- Named on the physician's certificate, but CPAP and BiPAP are listed for minor children only. Oxygen concentrators (continuous use), ventilators, dialysis and other devices are also listed. Customers may also qualify with a medical condition that would make disconnection especially dangerous.
- Renewal
- No fixed period. The certificate is valid only as long as the medical need is certified (short-term is 60 days or less), and NV Energy may ask for recertification as needed.
Backup battery or generator programs
- Program
- None found
- What it provides
- No backup battery or generator program for medical customers was found. NV Energy's energy storage incentive programs are fully closed to new applications as of April 2026. NV Energy recommends that customers who rely on life-support equipment have an alternate power supply.
