Meter collar transfer switches

Accepted

Entergy's 2026 Customer Installation Standards (August 2026, Revision 2) let customers install one meter socket adapter of three types: a transfer switch (UL 414 and UL 1008M), a DER connector for solar or batteries (UL 414), or a surge arrester (UL 414 and UL 1449). Only one adapter is allowed, stacking is not permitted, the meter must be held with a ring-type lock, and power source adapters are not allowed. A licensed electrician must be consulted and coordination with Entergy may be needed. Entergy does not publish a list of approved brands or models. The older 2018 edition said no customer device was allowed between the meter and socket; both editions are accepted until January 2027, when only the 2026 edition will be accepted.

Generator and battery disconnect requirements

A permanently installed backup generator that uses a transfer switch so it can never feed the grid needs no interconnection application. For a temporarily connected emergency generator, you must provide an open, visible break that Entergy can check, located outside and reachable at all hours; a main disconnect in the off position counts. Any generator or battery that runs in parallel with the grid needs a signed interconnection agreement and a lockable, manually operated, visible-break switch that Entergy can reach at all hours with no notice. Pull-out switches are not accepted. The switch should be near the meter; if it is not, a plaque within 3 feet of the meter must show where it is.

Gas meter upgrades for standby generators

Gas utility: Atmos Energy or Delta Utilities, depending on the area (Delta took over CenterPoint's Louisiana gas system in April 2025 and Entergy's Baton Rouge and New Orleans gas systems in July 2025)

Delta Utilities publishes a generator and appliance installation process: call Customer Service, have a licensed contractor send the gas load data, and Delta sizes the meter and tells you any meter upgrade cost before scheduling the work. Delta does not publish a set fee. Atmos Energy asks for the approximate BTU load when service or a meter is requested, but no published generator meter-upgrade fee was found.

Medical program for CPAP, BiPAP and oxygen users

Program
Certified medical emergency (disconnection delay) and the Entergy medical needs program ("Powering your medical needs")
What it provides
Certified medical emergency: electric service can be continued for up to 30 days when disconnection would cause a medical emergency, with a physician's form. The medical needs program helps you plan for outages. It does not stop disconnection for unpaid bills, does not give a discount, and does not mean your power is restored first. Customers on life-sustaining equipment may also qualify for special payment arrangements with a physician's statement.
CPAP / BiPAP
Named as not qualifying. Entergy Louisiana states that households with CPAP, BiPAP, home oxygen machines, nebulizers, dialysis or breathing-treatment machines do not qualify for the certified medical emergency extension. The medical needs program is limited to 24-hour in-home ventilators, LVADs and hospice care.
Renewal
Not stated.

Backup battery or generator programs

Program
None found
What it provides
No home battery or generator program for medical customers was found. Entergy says a backup power source is the customer's responsibility. Entergy Louisiana's Power Through program places backup generators at essential facilities such as hospitals, grocery stores and senior housing, not at individual homes.
